Walsall returned to their winning ways with a 2-0 home win against fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers which was just as well with other clubs down at the foot of the table getting some good results too. The first half was a generally poor period for both sides and it was clear that Walsall wanted to keep a clean sheet and offer no chances to their opponents.
The second half burst into life when Jamie Patterson was felled in the area. Up stepped Alex Nicholls but just like his previous game at Oldham shot tamely and the keeper saved. Walsall started to get into their stride and began a shoot on sight policy which resulted in Kevan Hurst striking a great finish from some distance out to lift his team and the fans.
Walsall came close on several more occasions but sealled the game in the 85th minute when substitute Jon Macken threaded a delightful pass to substitute George Bowerman who kept his head to put the game beyond Wycombe's reach. The relief was there for all to see at the end so have Saddlers turned the corner? Time will tell.
