WASUP (World Against Single Use Plastic) in collaboration with DPD UK (Green Strategy) and HSBC Birmingham Climate Action Network (BCAN) undertook a community garden clean up at the Green River Community Association in Bloxwich, Walsall, West Midlands, UK.

The event was supported by Balbir Seimar BEM, Chief WASUP Community Engagement Ambassador and Dr Zahra Yasin, Pakistan & Birmingham WASUP Ambassador.

Whilst WASUP group is deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it was felt that the event will go ahead.  She would be very proud, as well as the Royal family that routine work continues.

The Centre is run by Caroline Crolley with volunteers, Nicola Watts, Nicola Jewkes and Jean Peace.  The Cleanup was an initiative of Madaleine Holland.  She explained that Caroline Crolley needed some help and if WASUP could take up the challenge.  WASUP was delighted to accept.  Both of the amazing ladies were not able to join us on the day due to health reasons.

The group of volunteers helped clean up the garden area, cut and trim the bush hedges, remove weed plants, clean the entrance pathway, paint the garden benches and clean the hut area.

A special thanks to Professor Abdul Rashid Gatrad OBE, Founder of WASUP and Alice Jones, Miss Black Country, who joined in on World Clean Up Day.

We were blessed with sunshine and a cool breeze with a police helicopter hovering in the air!   The event demonstrates the power of people coming together to help protect our environment and keep our localities clean.

Our four principles: raising awareness, education, litter picking and recycling.
