YOUR BARD, the regular event where anybody can turn up and read Shakespeare together, is expanding into a new location.
Since June, regular events at The Wheatsheaf and Victoria pubs in Walsall has been going strong. Now the chap beneath the top hat is running events in Aldridge as well.
Andrew Clayton, who is also part of the team behind Walsall Festival of Words, has secured three dates at Aldridge Social Club on the High Street in the middle of Aldridge. Meeting from seven o’clock, you can pick a role from the Hat or simply grab a drink and listen in. Most plays can be read in three hours or so, and there’s plenty of variety from single-speech messengers and guards right through to main characters.
There’s no charge to join in, and copies of the text are available if you haven’t brought your own. At the end of the evening the hat is passed around in support of Ablewell Advice who operate a town centre food bank.
“You don’t need any experience,” says Andrew, “and you’ll be among friends. Everybody gets involved and reads along to find out where the story takes us. One person even gets the chance to read all the stage directions, so we know who’s on stage as we go.”
If you’re interested in joining up, simply see the events list on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/YOURBARD
