The hot topic of the moment in Warwick is all about the proposed serving of alcohol in the Tea Rooms in St Nicholas Park, Warwick. Many Warwick locals say St Nicholas Park already suffers badly from anti-social behaviour and under age drinking, particularly at night, and have been protesting against the The Tea Rooms liquor licence.
I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of this whole situation, but I fail to see how the alcohol licence for the Tea Rooms will worsen the problem of anti-social behaviour in St Nicholas Park. The Tea Rooms have made assurances that they will only serve alcohol responsibly and to over 18's and most people recognise that the under age drinkers and so called "yobs" in the park are taking their own cheap drink there. The bar prices and strict regulation at the Tea Rooms would make the alcohol inaccesible to these.
I totally agree that the anti social behaviour and under age drinking should be clamped down on in St Nicholas Park, but this should be done directly, not indirectly by depriving the sensible, law abiding majority in Warwick from enjoying a drink in nice surroundings.
It is a sign of the times that the majority are being made to suffer for the actions of the minority.
