On Saturday 13th July, Joan Morse from Watford will take part in Peace Hospice Care’s fundraising Starlight Walk, celebrate her birthday and mark 21 years of supporting the charity.  Hundreds of people will join Joan to walk in memory of friends and family at the event, kindly sponsored by Imagine, which starts in Cassiobury Park, Watford, at 8.30pm.

Joan started as a volunteer for Peace Hospice Care in 1998, including working in the kitchen and in the Inpatient Unit.  She no longer volunteers but has continued to support the charity since then by taking part in events and donating money.  Every year, rather than buying presents for the adults near and dear to her she donates money to the charity.

Speaking about fundraising for Peace Hospice Care, Joan said: “I know the Starlight Walk is going to be a wonderful event with the community walking together in memory while supporting a great cause.  I’ve known people who have been supported by the charity and when I volunteered I saw first-hand their fantastic work.  It means a great deal to fundraise for them and to know that that money is going to help people facing such difficult times.”

Declan Carroll, CEO of Peace Hospice Care, said: “We are so grateful for all the support we receive.  Whether someone donates a few pennies, volunteers just an hour of their time, takes part in one of our fundraising events such as our Starlight Walk or is a long-time supporter, like Joan, it all makes a huge difference.  Our heartfelt thanks to Joan and all our supporters – we are a charity and we can only deliver our free services because of them.”

The Starlight Walk starts at 8.30pm in Cassiobury Park, Watford on Saturday 13th July.  In previous years the event was women only but this year the event is open to all – men, women and children and offers a choice of 3, 6 or 13 mile routes through Watford town centre and the surrounding areas.   All participants will be given a commemorative artificial forget-me-not flower on which they can write a dedication to a loved one.  They can then plant the flower at the Hospice or take it home for their own garden.

Places are still available on the Starlight Walk.  To find out more information, or to sign up to this event, please visit: www.peacehospicecare.org.uk/starlightwalk or email: events@peacehospicecare.co.uk
