An Abbots Langley exercise group and its instructor, Charlie Carter, has raised over £1,500 for Peace Hospice Care through donations made from live fitness classes.
Charlie moved her classes online due to the Coronavirus pandemic and streamed them live on Facebook, free of charge, during April. Instead of paying for the sessions, members made donations to Peace Hospice Care via a fundraising page (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/charlies-keepfit) to support us through the impact of the pandemic on our income.
David Cunnington, a Peace Hospice Care trustee, and member of the exercise group, said: “Charlie has been doing an amazing job offering live classes during lockdown. The group wanted to thank Charlie for kindly giving up her time to provide the classes, and we decided to ask for voluntary donations to Peace Hospice Care as a way of showing our thanks.”
Declan Carroll, CEO of Peace Hospice Care, said: “As a charity, we have been hit by the pandemic – having to close our shops and postpone fundraising events. We are now relying more than ever on our local community for their own fundraising initiatives and using technology and social media to get people involved. We’re so grateful to Charlie for sharing her talent and raising vital funds for us at the same time, it really reflects how the local community is coming together at this time.”
For every £1 of income Peace Hospice Care receives, less than 20p comes from the NHS. If you would like to support the Hospice during this difficult time, please see: www.peacehospicecare.org.uk/donate.
