Hertfordshire salt levels are running low.
Although the council ordered the maximum amount of salt able to be stored, the recurrent freezing temperatures and snow falls have left the county's stocks depleted.
Hertfordshire County Council put in an request for more salt but this has been declined by central government. The Department of Transport refused the application as they felt other regions were in higher need.
With no further delivery due now until the New
Year and further ice and snow predicted, the council will be working to make the best use of the salt that they have remaining.
It is expected that gritting may become limited to the county's major routes.
