thebestof Watford has already reported about the council's plans for the 'top of the town' redevelopment, and there has been an important update from the council in the last few days.
The council has now approved the move to the next stage of proceedings, which includes the completion of detailed design work and finding a developer to undertake the £4.3m project.
The plan is expected to transform the upper end of The Parade to convert it into an open civic space capable of hosting outdoor events, as well as being a pleasant area to spend time with an improved pond and seating area, and a smaller informal events area.
Work is expected to start as soon as this spring with completion planned for 2014 in what is hoped to be an outstanding improvement to the facilities in the town.
“The aim of these improvements is to attract a wide range of visitors throughout the day and evening, whether to enjoy an outdoor event in a thriving civic space or simply to sit and pass the time there," said elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill.
“When the improvements are completed, the area should also bring economic benefits to local businesses and the town centre generally."
