Top recycling tips for Easter!

Did you know that around 80 million Easter eggs are sold in the UK each year, producing 4,500 tonnes of packaging?

That’s a lot of cardboard!

Here are a few top tips from Watford Borough Council on recycling:

  • Don’t forget to recycle any clean cardboard, foil and plastic packaging in your blue lidded bin.
  • Watford residents recycled more than 6,000 tonnes of garden and food waste between 16 April 2016 and 17 March 2017. ALL garden and food waste can be recycled in your green-lidded bin.
  • If every household in Hertfordshire recycled just one teabag per week we could divert over 350 tonnes from disposal per year saving at least £20,000 of tax payers’ money! Teabags can be recycled in the green-lidded bin.
  • To make life easier, we delivered food caddies to every house in Watford last year. Please put a biodegradable bag in them before using them for your teabags and food waste. Then you can just tie the bag up when it gets full and throw it in your green-lidded bin outside.
  • If you’ve run out of compostable bags for your food caddy these can be bought from the Customer Service Centre at the Town Hall or most supermarkets.
  • Planning a trip to the tip? The opening hours for Waterdale Waste Recycling Centre  have now changed to summer opening hours of 10am to 6pm. Please pre-sort your waste to save time and queues at the tip. Remember: Recycling on your doorstep could save you time and petrol money.

Revised bin timetable for Easter period

Watford Borough Council and its partner Veolia will be operating a revised rubbish collection timetable during the Easter period. Your rubbish collection will take place one day later than usual. All collections will return to normal on Monday 24 April. Find out when your next bin collection date is.
