Regulations and being a compliant Watford business

All businesses have a responsibility to follow regulations and rules, whether it's licensing, health and safety, trading standards or employment law - it can be a mine field knowing where to go and who to speak to..

To take the hassle out of making sure your business is compliant, all Hertfordshire’s councils are members of the BBfA (Hertfordshire’s Better Business for All).

The aim of the BBfA partnership between councils and businesses is to help businesses grow their productivity and profit by complying with BUT not being restrained by regulations, such as checking potential employees for eligibility to work.

Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is a great resource for businesses to learn how regulators can help them and there's a Regulation Directory to find contact details for everyone they might need to speak.

Hertfordshire’s Better Business for All (BBfA) was recently recognised at the national Better Business for All Awards in London and was the only initiative of its kind to be shortlisted for two awards.  They were commended by judges for improving regulators’ confidence when signposting each other’s services to businesses, and for understanding the challenges facing them.

Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “We want businesses to thrive in Watford, and we will do everything we can to help them succeed in our wonderful town. Our regulators are here to act as advisors to the majority of businesses, helping them to share good practice and not to waste money. Equally though they will come down hard on those that flout the law and who purposefully risk their customers health or make profit from illegal activity. What’s not to like?”
