The end has finally come for Rushden and Diamonds football Club - the club that helped put Rushden on the map.
The club was created in 1992 after a merger between Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds. After just 4 years it progressed up the ladder to the Conference League, and it spent 5 years aiming for promotion into the Football League - achieving the dream in 2001! Sadly in 2006 things sarted to go wrong for the club as it slipped back to the Conference League.
After 19 years of shared highs and lows, the hopes of loyal fans and the community have been dashed by the news that the Japanese investors pulled out of the proposed takeover deal late on Sunday night.
Nene Park owner Keith Cousins is likely to put the club into administration before next week’s winding up court order.
