In the early days of its existence, the Orchestra & Chorus met to rehearse at the now demolished Cherry Tree, comprising three army huts. Waitrose now stands on the site.
With some 80 enthusiastic and committed members, our current success and high standard of performance in concerts owe much to the leadership of our professionals.
We are fortunate to have as Music Director James Ross, who is an experienced and distinguished conductor. He has performed at most major concert halls in London, and also in America, Europe and Asia. James has also conducted in the presence of the Queen at Westminster Abbey and at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings in Sri Lanka and Malta.
Chorus Master Crispin Lewis, is a dedicated and successful conductor of choirs, and also a professional singer and violinist. In addition, he has performed with The Musicall Compass, a specialist baroque music ensemble, at major London concert halls and live on BBC Radio 3.
The President of the Orchestra & Chorus, Andrew Watkinson, is the founder and leader of the internationally acclaimed Endellion String Quartet, arguably the finest quartet in the country. Andrew has performed with our orchestra as violin soloist on several occasions, and will be performing with us again in 2017.
The Orchestra & Chorus, separately and together, perform around four concerts a year. Venues include St John’s Church WGC, St Francis Church WGC, as well as Tewin Bury Farm Tythe Barn. We also hold social events on a regular basis.
Anyone who enjoys singing or who plays an instrument is invited to come along to one of our rehearsals, where they will be assured of a warm welcome! There are no auditions, and new members are invited to join by mutual agreement.
Rehearsals, term-time only, are at Templewood School, Pentley Park WGC AL8 7SD, 7.45pm on Monday evenings (Choir) and Tuesday evenings (Orchestra).
