RECOVER is a social enterprise based in Welwyn Garden City; up-cycling donated & rescued furniture & fabrics from landfill. They pride ourselves on making a difference to the community and local environment by collecting unwanted items. This aspect of the project has a positive social impact alongside the mainstay of what they are all about
To date Recover has supported over 80 volunteers; local people who have experienced difficulties and found themselves furthest from the job market. In addition to the training & supervision they provide in the artisan skills of up-cycling, theygive volunteers structure & routine, and make available to them a wide variety of accredited training courses in subjects including IT skills, Food health & hygiene and First Aid.
With some wonderful outcomes already, volunteers moving into employment or further training Recover is looking forward to the future & making an even greater impact on the lives, and homes of people in Hertfordshire.
In the workshop Recover's team up-cycle furniture right from design; researching current trends and techniques, planning how they can make a saleable piece whilst still putting their personal stamp on it. The upholstery side of the business is equally inspiring, producing outstanding and original items; the team receive professional training and support in re-using fabrics and materials. They are involved in the planning & design, measuring, cutting, sewing, fire retardant rules and regulations, current trends, pricing and marketing.
RECOVER is open Monday to Saturday 10-4 for visitors and by donating, purchasing or visiting our artisan workshop & spreading the word, people are supporting and promoting a safer community and healthier lives.
