The Welwyn Garden City based, Red Rubber Ball Foundation, runs education projects in Kenya where children often lack food as well as the opportunity to attend school. Through a farming project, the Foundation provides maize to a primary school so local children at least get one hot meal each day.
A scholarship programme matches sponsors with individual children (many orphans and from single parent families) who simply wouldn’t be in school without their support.
They’re a grateful, ambitious and thoroughly impressive group of kids. And sponsors take a keen interest, following their progress through school reports at the end of each term.
And the projects don’t stop there.
A mentoring programme with Nairobi based businesses helps the young students move on, gaining personal confidence, work experience, and building networks, so they can get work or set up their own ventures.
And The Red Rubber Ball Foundation set up the first cycling club in the Kibera slums with David Kinjah, the mentor of Tour de France winner, Chris Froome.
The Red Rubber Ball Foundation is a voluntary charity which raises funds from local businesses and residents. For more information on how to support projects or sponsor a child, check out the website or email Neil Kirby via the links in the contact section
