Charles Dale from Flatcap Coffee at Strutton Ground Market has been officially awarded Market Trader of the Year 2010!
Charles and his team won the award after many customers commented on their rare ability to get London office workers through the day - perfectly blending a quality cup of coffee with friendly banter at the stall.
Charles said "I’ve never won anything in my life. It is a great achievement to win the overall prize and I’m really delighted. I was excited and surprised when I heard we had been nominated by so many our customers, but to win the whole thing - that makes me feel very proud."
Flatcap Coffee will receive three months free trading worth more than £2000, as well as a rosette and certificate to display on the stall. This year's contest attracted more votes than ever before and was judged by the general public on appearance, customer service, quality of goods and presentation.
Councillor Brian Connell, Cabinet Member for Business and Enterprise and Skills said: “The fact that so many people took the time to vote for their favourite market trader shows how important markets and independent traders are to our residents. We are lucky in Westminster to have so many fine markets and we are committed to supporting them. There are more than 600 market stall sites across Westminster offering a wide variety of healthy produce and bargain goods. This competition aims to reward traders who comply fully with their licensing conditions, build strong relationships between the Council and traders while also raising the public awareness of the valuable service markets provide.”
