FROM TRAGEDY TO TRIUMPH
I was truly inspired last week when I met a lady who has become a role model in Weston by turning a tragic event into an opportunity to help young people. And now - I’d like to invite you to meet her.
Read her story:
“As director-founder, my motivation for this venture originates from a recent personal tragedy. Following a road traffic accident in September last year, my husband died and my 15 year old son was seriously injured. Ryan, my son, is a passionate scooter and BMX rider, and although he is making a good recovery, he still requires more surgery and has been unable to participate in the urban sports he loves since the accident. As a result of this adversity, I have a certain amount of funds available to loan-set up the company and feel that I have an opportunity to create something good out of something so very awful, basically - turn a tragedy into a triumph.”
So, what exciting challenge has Nikki embarked on? – YES – something that will impact on all of us!
Supported with a following of over 1400 enthusiastic young people she has registered a Community Interest Company (CIC – not for profit organization) and is busy securing a property to set up an urban sports arena for the youth of Weston. This is an exciting venture that will offer the youth a positive life experience and opportunity to learn life skills while having fun. The arena will have a skate-BMX park along with other activities such as a cafe, chill-out-recreation area, internet suite, film-editing suite, music-recording -dance studio, performing arts stage, climbing wall and youth counselling.
By the way – did you know that there is a possibility that BMX freestyle may be included as a discipline in the London Olympics 2012? Imagine how good you’d feel if a youth from Weston was selected and you had participated in the project in some way!
The project is gathering momentum and Nikki has graciously enabled http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/weston-super-mare/events to be a proud sponsor by hosting the
“LAUNCH TO BUSINESS” event.
Nikki Stabbins and her team will be presenting the project and are inviting businesses to become supporting partners, in which ever way you can. The project needs lots of support – skills, time or maybe just advice - what can you offer?
COME to meet in person the team of young people and their role model – Nikki, and get the opportunity to be known as a company that is having a positive impact in Weston.
