A rehearsed- reading of the first draft of 'Hey Baby!' - AsOne Theatre's new commission by Dorset based playwright, Nell Denton - took place at Weymouth Drama Club's Warehouse Studio recently prior to the start of the company's spring tour in March and April 2009.
'Hey Baby!' is a multi-media, emotional roller coaster based on real bitter-sweet experiences of the journey into parenthood from 'troubled-teen', to 'romantically-planned' to 'last-chance couple'. Nell Denton has created a magical piece of story-telling for AsOne interwoven by breathtaking images underscored by a new suite of music from the talented Dorset composer, Simon Swarbrick, evoking Baby's story.
An invited audience were asked to provide feedback to assist in the development of the play. Richard Lawson representing Dorset Artsreach said: 'Very engaging, even as a man I found it very engaging; I was able to identify with all the characters.' Stephanie Murdock commented: 'Very innovative way of conveying women's voices - wonderful, wonderful music.'
Curves, Women's Health and Fitness Club of Weymouth provided wine to help the evening go with a swing and are Arts and Business partners with AsOne Theatre for the forth-coming tour.
Jane McKell, AsOne Theatre's Artistic Director described Hey Baby, 'Unique yet universal, poignant, funny but above all truthful; a moving and very witty piece, theatre for everyone…if you haven't had a baby you've certainly been one!
