As a charitable organisation the overall aims of The Wimbledon Guild are to care for people in need in Merton by delivering support from the heart of the Community.

The Wimbledon Guild provides support from the heart of the community, reaching out to people throughout the borough of Merton.

Its aims are:

  1. Tackling poverty
  2. Supporting ageing
  3. Encouraging mental well-being

These objectives are achieved through a range of services including: furniture recycling, small grants programmes, a comprehensive counselling service and a variety of activities that encourage older people to get the most from life and live independently with confidence. In this economic climate, need for these services has never been greater.

Furniture recycling and grants

The furniture recycling service and small grants program eases the lives of local families struggling with poverty. Donations are gratefully received from The Wimbledon Guild Harvest Festival, Christmas Gift collections, The Wimbledon Guild Fair as well as schools and churches across the borough, which are then distributed to families and individuals throughout Merton.

Ageing well

The Wimbledon Guild supports older people to meet their personal and emotional aspirations through a variety of activities, flexible transport provisions and newly launched café. These encourage older people to get the most from life by remaining active and social. While trained and vetted volunteer befrienders make regular visits to local people who are virtually housebound to reduce isolation and promote neighbourliness.

Counselling

The Wimbledon Guild counselling and free advice services help people to help themselves and include Youth Counselling (15 to 24), as well as Family Therapy sessions and are open to people of all ages. Under 18s receive free counselling from trained counsellors, while adults pay only what they can afford.

There are over 250 volunteers in the volunteering programme who share a passion to support to the community. To find out more about the uplifting experience that The Wimbledon Guild can offer visit our website.
