Merton Council is dedicated to preserving and protecting the borough's trees. As one of the greenest boroughs in London, it's of utmost importance to look after all greenery.

In order to protect such trees, Merton council has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) campaign in place. A TPO is intended to protect one or more trees or woodland if its removal would have significant impact on the local environment and its enjoyment by the public.

Tree preservation orders may be used to protect trees in private gardens, trees on land affected by a planning application, trees on open land, single trees, groups of trees and woodlands.

Across Merton there are currently over 600 TPOs in place. Then number of trees in any one order may vary from a single tree, group of trees, an area of trees or even a woodland.

If a tree is protected, you must apply for tree work consent. You must also ensure a professional carries out the work in order to reduce any possible damage to the protected tree.

Thankfully, GraftinGardeners are tree specialists and can work with any species, age and protected nature of trees. Whether it's general maintenance such as pruning and trimming, or branch removal and health checks, no task is too big or small for GraftinGardeners.
