The BEF conference and awards ceremony took place last week, and Gavin Thorn Photography became a winner in the category of Best Start Up. As well as the personal boost that winning such an award provides, this award has already secured Gavin’s business more work and of course has generated publicity for his business.
I thought I would take a moment to describe Gavin’s business in a little more detail. Angus has been coaching Gavin as part of our Group Coaching programme. Gavin’s business already has 2 major revenue streams – with a third being developed.
The first area of his business is High Fashion Portraiture by Gavin Thorn Photography. Gavin works with the client before they even reach the studio to design a shoot around the client’s personality and their desires for the outcome.
He says “I don’t want to be like every other portrait studio. I start where everyone else stops. It’s more than just the image. It’s also about the experience. I want my clients to feel they’ve just walked onto a fashion set ….we work together to create magic.”
His second main area is business portraits of “very busy business people”. Called ExecHeadshots, Gavin uses ultra-lightweight studio equipment to make magazine quality business portraits – taken almost anywhere.
He says “my clients are board level and senior management teams who do not have the time, or the inclination, to visit a studio yet need images for their annual report, press releases, marketing material etc.”
Gavin brings the studio to them, and describes a typical sitting taking between 3 and 9 minutes – fitting in between phone calls! So you have no excuse not to have a decent photo on your website, social media feeds or indeed annual report!
Speaking from personal experience, Gavin took my photo for my first book Raise Your Game – written for business owners who want to achieve their next success. I am a nervous subject – but Gavin eased me into the experience – and took some great photos.
