Newhampton Arts Centre will open it’s theatre doors to welcome a new, exciting and original show for 2020. RAT produced by The Rat Affair is an unforgettable performance of the Pied Piper of Hamelin reimagined through shadow puppetry and a live musical score, playing at NAC theatre on the 5th of March.
For this unique performance, the classic tale is told with no speech and instead is brought alive through music and stunning shadow puppet art. Expect live music that shifts between sensationally boisterous Eastern European folk and sparse reflective piano works. The Rat Affair company is a gathering of talented band of musicians, theatre makers and visual artists who have come together to create a theatre piece like no other, captivating their audience and inviting them to reflect.
Based on the German legend of The Pied Piper of Hamelin, the RAT tells the story of a man who proposes to get rid of a city in crisis by eliminating its vermin infestation. This show shares powerful ideas related to the human condition along with starkly contemporary political issues about populism and leadership. The RAT questions the very nature of theatre by removing speech from the narrative, choosing instead to adopt the use of exquisite puppetry and projection to present a powerful spectacle of light and sound that will leave you wanting more.#
What are the experts saying about RAT;
“it awakes our senses and imagination, provoking those fundamental questions of human condition” - Agnieszka Blonska, Theatre Director & Senior Lecturer at Falmouth University.
“fiercely beautiful imagery with extraordinary music and a biting political comment” - Mike Shepherd, Artistic Director of Kneehigh
The RAT will be performed on thrusday 5th of March at 7.30 pm at Newhampton Arts Centre Wolverhampton. Suitable for audiences 10+. Tickets are priced at £8 and £7 concessions and can be purchased here:
