Brendan To Open Wolverhampton Literature Festival

Wolverhampton Literature Festival returns between 3 - 5th February and WCR FM, Wolverhampton`s radio station, is hosting 3 days of free events in the Mander Centre Community Hub.  

  The  opening performer is Brendan Hawthorne. He is a poet, playwright, singer-songwriter, author and comic compère, as well as a born-and-bred Black Countryman. He is widely published, has held several writing residencies and delivered many bespoke commissions throughout his twenty year writing career. 

  Brendan  was one of Anthony Gormley’s ‘Fourth Plinthers’ where he performed his work in Trafalgar Square, London, atop the empty plinth. Brendan was made Wednesbury Poet Laureate in 2014 and held the ‘Bill o Bowes’ national award for best written dialect two years running. 

    When asked to open the three day event here at at The Mander Centre he said,      “It is a great honour to open such a prestigious event in such great company. Well done to Ian Henery and all at WCR for their hard work in putting this event together. It’ll be a great event so pull up a chair and join us in this cavalcade of spoken word and song!”
