The Wolverhampton Literature Festival supports local talent and is always on the hunt for new faces to be showcased to its audiences.
For 2021, a new initiative is being developed to provide a platform for young authors, poets and creatives living within the Black Country area.
Organisers are looking for three young creatives, aged between 18 and 25, living or from the Black Country area, to work alongside our Young Poet Laureate and perform a set at our bespoke events.
Whether you are just starting out, a solo artist or a group, they are looking for inspiring poets, authors, dramaturgs, storytellers, playwriters or activists, who are eager to perform.
The successful performers will be given a 30-minute slot to showcase their work at the Young Creative event at the festival. As part of the paid opportunity, they will also be provided with a series of personalised, professional development programmes to support with literary creativity, through fortnightly meetings and workshops prior to and following the performance.
City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor Stephen Simkins said: “It is a great opportunity for young adults to get involved in the festival and share their talent and skills with others.
“The successful applicants will also be given the chance to work with the team at City of Wolverhampton Council as well as industry professionals to help them strive and develop their career. I urge as many people as possible to get involved.”
Applicants must answer the following questions: 1. What inspired you to pursue your creative art form? (max 250 words). 2. Provide details or an example of your proposed set (max 500 words). 3. What type of development would you hope to gain from participating in this programme? (max 500 words).
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, December 6, 2020, and both written and video applications (max 20 mins) are welcome.
Please send your application and enquires to art.gallery@wolverhampton.gov.uk.
