Council opens book of condolence in memory of Councillor Peter Bilson

City of Wolverhampton Council has opened a public book of condolence for people to pay tributes to deputy council leader Peter Bilson who died aged 66 on Saturday.

Councillor Bilson, who was a councillor for the Bushbury South and Low Hill ward, served the city for almost four decades having been first elected in 1982.

He was the deputy leader of the council and the cabinet member for city assets and housing. He had also been Mayor of Wolverhampton at the turn of the Millennium when city status was granted.

The council’s social media pages have been inundated with tributes after Cllr Bilson’s death was announced yesterday (MON FEB 18).

A public book of condolence has now been opened in the foyer of the Civic Centre. Amongst the first to sign it were the Mayor, Cllr Claire Darke, council leader Cllr Ian Brookfield, opposition leader Cllr Wendy Thompson and chief executive Tim Johnson.

The Civic Centre is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm and from 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays.

Councillor Bilson leaves behind a wife, Nicky, two children, James and Emma and six adoring grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
