City of Wolverhampton Council stood in solidarity with the people of Ukraine with a flag-raising ceremony in St Peter’s Square this morning to mark the one-year anniversary of the full-scale invasion by Russia.
Deputy Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Dr Mike Hardacre, said:
“Today, we paid tribute to the courage, bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian people as we mark the one-year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with our Ukrainian community here in Wolverhampton and we stand firm in upholding and protecting our shared belief in the cherished values of democracy and freedom.
“This invasion has not only affected Ukraine, but it has also had a profound impact on the entire world. Despite the pain and terrible cost of war, we must not lose hope. We have seen the resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity, and we have been inspired by their perseverance.
“It is our shared responsibility to do all that we can to support Ukraine and its people in their time of need. It is our shared responsibility to do all that we can to support Ukraine and its people in their time of need.”
The Deputy Mayor of Wolverhampton was joined at the flagpole in St Peter’s Square by guests including Mr Mychailo Fedyk, Head of the Ukrainian Youth Association, Wolverhampton, members of the Ukrainian community and supporters.
