A hat-trick of Crowdfund Wolves projects are celebrating hitting their fundraising targets to support City of Wolverhampton’s children and young people.
The Way - Wolverhampton Youth Zone has raised £32,835 to create a high-level sensory room for young people and children from Wolverhampton and surrounding areas who suffer with sensory disabilities and difficulties.
The facility will enable young people with specific needs to visit the same building as their friends and peers. They will benefit from the mental stimulation and improved motor skills that the specialised equipment provides, and they will feel less isolated from other children. It will also help young people to calm down and manage stressful situations.
The 1st Finchfield Scout Group has raised just under £12,000 to help replace its 43-year-old wooden hut in Merry Hill with a new brick building.
The hut has supported thousands of children and young people in Wolverhampton, between the ages of six and 18, to attend beavers, cubs, scouts and learn to become young leaders.
Finchfield & Castlecroft Community Association has raised £28,459 through Crowdfund Wolves to purchase a minibus for transporting children at Uplands School, enabling them to visit cultural, sporting and similar venues to widen the children's education, improve health and enrich their lives.
All three projects benefitted from a contribution from City of Wolverhampton Council’s Crowdfund Wolves pot, along with donations from a host of other generous backers.
City of Wolverhampton Council Leader, Councillor Ian Brookfield, said: “Through Crowdfund Wolves we are helping connect people, ideas and support to enable city residents to turn ideas into reality and shape City of Wolverhampton’s future.
“We want every child and young person in our city to thrive and hit their full potential, and when I became leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council last May I made this one of my key priorities.
“Children and young people have told us very clearly that they want to see more local, community-based provision which is open to all. We want to see that too, and these three projects will provide valuable support in achieving this goal.”
The Way CEO, Carla Priddon, added: “Thank you to everyone in the community who has supported us via Crowdfund Wolves on the Spacehive Platform. Particular thanks to the council team who helped nudge supporters over the line at the eleventh hour! We look forward to unveiling our new sensory room in 2020 and welcoming lots of new young people to The Way.”
Karen Whale, 1st Finchfield Scout Leader, said: “Crowdfund Wolves has supported 1st Finchfield Scout Group in raising the awareness of their project for DIY SOS Scout Hut and we have been overwhelmed by the response from all those who have made pledges from parents, to those who have read our story, the local shops in the communities of Springhill, Merry Hill and Warstones, and the wider City of Wolverhampton.”
Finchfield and Castlecroft Community Association Secretary, Wendy Dalton, added: “Spacehive provide a professional effective platform and Crowdfund Wolves has enabled us to raise funds for a new mini-bus for Uplands School.
“It has been amazing how the school and local community have pulled together to make this happen and we recognise that without the help of the local council, we may not have got over the line.
“We can now transport children from Uplands School enabling them to visit cultural, sporting and similar venues to widen the children's education, improve health and enrich their lives. Many thanks to all involved from all at the Finchfield and Castlecroft Community Association.”
