I have always loved reading and language. My musical background is primarily fixed in hip-hop, most notably gangsta hip-hop. I have always had poetry within me, but I had never expressed my own poetic notions.
It was not until the start of this year that I began to write poetry. My poetry is inspired from my experiences both at university and in my professional career. Moreover, I seek inspiration from the issues that are prevalent in society today, which through my poetry I seek to raise awareness about.
My poems are mainly centred on institutional issues such as racism and discrimination, mental health issues, the importance of nature and political issues. I am an avid writer of eco-conscious poetry, it is important we incorporate into our spirituality a desire to protect and preserve our natural world. It is what sustains us.
So far, I have written about eight poems, with the main aim of putting these into an album. These stanzas, coupled with my friend’s ability to make beats, should add another dimension to ‘spoken word’ poetry and it will metamorphose into a rap song.
My goals with my poetry and music are to spread awareness of important issues and make this accessible. I prefer to adopt a brutal honesty approach in my work. This helps to point out the scant hypocrisy that exists in society today and it also highlights the farcical nature of those that govern.
Society keeps giving me ammunition to further my work and in that sense I am grateful for how topsy-turvy the world is. However, I would much prefer not having to write these pieces and live in a world that is ecologically and socially sound. My poetry will hopefully inspire a mycelium like reaction that eats up all the dead and negative energy in order to propagate a new and beautiful existence for all to enjoy.
