Enjoy Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID) has been awarded Business Crime Partnership Accreditation in its work to keep Wolverhampton a safe and welcoming city centre.

The BID manages the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) which is a partnership based approach to preventing crime and disorder.

The accreditation provides strong reassurance for all city centre businesses and stakeholders that we are working effectively to reduce crime and opportunities for crime. It also gives businesses confidence that all data and intelligence is secure and managed appropriately.

The accreditation is awarded to partnerships that are operating lawfully, effectively and to the standards set out in the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP) Codes of Practice and supported by the National Police Chiefs Council.

The standards are assessed by the NABCP in five parts: overview and governance; partnerships, benefits aims and objectives; communications; systems and procedures, data integrity.

Alongside the BCRP, Enjoy Wolverhampton BID manages a range of crime reduction services in the city centre, including CCTV surveillance, Radio Link, DISC crime reporting and intelligence app, Late Night Safe Haven and Night Guardians.

The City Centre Ambassadors also act as eyes and ears for city centre businesses during the day, sharing important information.

Jo became business crime reduction coordinator in October 2022 and manages all aspects of the BCRP.

Cherry Shine, Enjoy Wolverhampton BID managing director said “Accreditation was no easy feat. It means a careful review of all our processes and procedures, and it requires an exceptional level of understanding and focus on detail.

I am therefore immensely proud that we have secured BCRP accreditation.

Since Jo took on the role, she has made huge strides forward in coordinating the intelligence we share amongst our city centre business community, always ensuring we are data protection compliant.

She is effectively progressing exclusions of the most prolific offenders of shop theft through our BCRP members and facilitates the Barred from One Barred From All on behalf of Pubwatch businesses.”

Cherry said “Shop theft is an issue affecting retailers in every town and city across the country. Accreditation indicates to national retailers and independent businesses considering investing here that we are serious and committed to tackling the issues and working together to reduce crime.”
