The former Mayor of Wolverhampton has given copies of his mayoral speeches and official photos to the city archives for future generations interested in looking back at civic life.

Dr Michael Hardacre, who was mayor during 2023-2024 and served as a councillor until the local elections in May, handed over the documents at Wolverhampton’s Local History Fair.

He said: “It is important to preserve the history and culture of the civic life of the city and I hope previous and future mayors will consider doing the same.”

The speeches and photos from his mayoral year will now be catalogued and preserved as a publicly available digital record via https://wolvcityarc.access.preservica.com/ in the New Year.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, City of Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for digital and community, said: “This is a wonderful gesture by our former mayor.

“It will ensure future generations will be able to look back and learn more about life in Wolverhampton in the same way that we are able to make use of the city’s archives to delve into the past today.”

The Local History Fair was held at the City Archives’ Molineux Hotel building in November and more than 250 people attended.
