But what of Frankie? As she climbs the sparkling staircase of stardom, is she ready to confront what she is willing to do for fame and fortune? Can she stay in the Bollywood family and still be true to herself? This is a 5 Gold Star Show that is inspired by real stories of British women who have been caught up in the spotlight of the biggest film industry in the world - Bollywood.
"This new musical draws inspiration from both traditional Bollywood music and the best of Western musical theartre" said Pravesh Kumar MBE. "The music for Frankie Goes To Bollywood is a carefully integrated hybrid. We wanted to appeal to the lovers of the Bollywood genre and also lovers of a good old West end extraganza. There will be beautiful sets and incredible colourful costumes with some really beautiful new songs too!"
Frankie Goes To Bollywood is a breathtakingly colourful journey of romance, sweeping songs and vibrant dance. Amongst all of the heroes and villains, the costumes and the spectacle, get ready for the tale of being British in Bollywood.
"A lot of the story is about a question of belonging" explained Pravesh Kumar MBE. "Often, even when we are born in the UK, we are still seen as immigrants and can often feel like we don`t belong. I hope this story asks the right questions about belonging and starts many conversations".
A strong theme throughout Pravesh Kumar MBE`s work has been platforming the experiences of working class British South Asians. He drew on his inside knowledge of Bollywood in this case. His work often looks at family and what that means and how we can come together and celebrate kinship plus having real and meaningful relationships.
"Throughout my life and career" said Pravesh Kuman MBE "I have developed a huge love for South Asian culture and traditions but wanted my plays to have a realistic point of view and analysis alongside the celebratory element. I think that it`s vital that as artists we keep questioning and holding up a mirror to society".
