As part of the Wolves At Work 18-24 employment initiative City of Wolverhampton Council is helping unemployed young people get job ready through a series of free workshops.

The council is running Employment Information Workshops for anyone aged 18-24 interested in finding out what it is like to work at the council, the job opportunities available and the support on hand when applying for a role at the council.

The workshops are aimed at young people applying for an apprenticeship or a role where the annual salary is £18,333 to £27,514 (Grades 2-5).

Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Work, Councillor Chris Burden, said: “One of our key priorities is to reduce unemployment among 18 to 24-year-olds in our city.

“This can only be achieved by working closely with city partners and employers to better connect young people to jobs, training and learning opportunities.

“These free workshops are just one example of how the Council is leading the way in supporting unemployed young people in Wolverhampton to get job-ready and provide them with the chance to secure well-paid jobs with a bright future.”

The two-hour workshops at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Square (WV1 1SH), include the following:

  • a tour of the council building (see what it's like inside)
  • helpful tips on applying for vacancies within the council
  • opportunity to hear from recruiting managers and what it is they are looking for
  • the chance to speak to and hear from other young people/adults working at the council
  • information on the opportunities available to employees
  • access further support through our Black Country Impact and Wolves At Work teams

Sessions are monthly, with the next Employment Information Workshop on Friday, June 10, from 11am to 1pm.
