Wolverhampton Art Gallery will be hosting a new programme of events ‘Friday Lates’. On the last Friday of the month, the gallery will be opening the door after hours and offering a new way to experience art and culture within the city.
Each event will be inspired by current exhibitions and include a variety of live performances, music, workshops and curators’ talks throughout the gallery spaces.
Glaze, the eating space, will be open to ensure visitors don’t go hungry or thirsty as visitors see their way into the night.
To celebrate the re-opening of The Halls Wolverhampton and the live performance of Blur in the city on Friday, May 26, Wolverhampton Art Gallery will be staying open until 7pm that evening, giving audiences a taste of this new series of Friday Lates.
Visitors to the city or attending The Halls Wolverhampton will have the opportunity to see the latest exhibitions including ‘The more things change…’, that recognise and celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Blk Art Group and ‘Citizen UK Wolverhampton: Punjabi Migration Experiences’ an exhibition curated in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery and citizen researchers, chronicling important figures and stories within Wolverhampton’s Punjabi community
Glaze will be playing 90s music and serving drinks, snacks and a selection of sharing platters. There will also be an opportunity to draw a favourite 90s band poster or other artwork with friends at our Drink and Draw activity.
City of Wolverhampton Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor Stephen Simkins, said: “A fantastic range of events have been organised by the arts and culture team.
“Visitors attending the city will have a new evening venue to grab a bite to eat or drink before they go on to the event they are attending.
“It is also a fantastic opportunity for the city’s collection to be seen after hours with friends and family.”
Wolverhampton Art Gallery is free to visit Monday to Saturday, 10.30am until 4.30pm, and Sunday, 11am until 4pm.
