Following the sell out run of High School Musical last year - Wolverhampton Grand Theatre are delighted to present High School Musical 2 starring Les Dennis and GMTV’s search for Troy winner Liam Doyle.
High School’s out and our East High Wildcats need summer jobs! Troy, Gabriella, Taylor and Chad all land work at an exclusive country club but it’s not going to be an easy ride as Ryan and Sharpay are vacationing there too and plan on having some fun of their own. As it turns out their family owns the club, so the scheming siblings make it their mission to stir things up for the friends. The action builds to the country club’s all important Midsummer Night’s Talent Show, but will the Wildcats be ready in time? Will Troy duet with Sharpay or Gabriella, will Ryan finally realise his sister’s true motives and will squabbles, double-crossing and a baseball tournament stand in the way of their performances and, ultimately, their friendships?
Playing the role of Mr Fulton, Les Dennis is acknowledged as one of Britain’s most popular entertainers, his career spanning television, radio, film, stage and the written word. Rising to fame on the comedy circuit Les soon found television success on comedy and variety shows as well as a hugely successful run as a game show host on Family Fortunes. He has starred in many stage productions from sell out pantomimes to plays by Shakespeare, Priestley and Ayckbourn and on screen his guest star credits include New Street Law, The Bill, Holby City and Extras. As a leading man in musical theatre he has starred in Me & My Girl, Chicago and most recently in Eurobeat.
Liam Doyle beat hundreds of hopefuls in the GMTV Search for Troy competition earlier this year. As an 18 year old A Level student and part time barman Liam decided on a career in performing arts following an injury which left him unable to carry on with a promising future in soccer. Coventry born and bred, Liam is joined on stage by his fellow TV finalists Ian McIntosh and James Lacey, both of whom the creative team felt should also join the cast.
High School Musical 2 includes all the songs from the chart-topping sequel’s soundtrack, including What Time Is it?, You Are The Music In Me and Fabulous. The production will be directed by Jeff Calhoun, whose credits include the award-winning Broadway revivals of Grease and Big River and the US and UK stage versions of High School Musical Live On Stage!. The production team also includes original creators of High School Musical Live On Stage!, Choreographer Lisa Stevens and Scenic Designer Kenneth Foy.
