When a person lives in their own home and needs help and support in order to remain there, a domiciliary care service is put in to place. There can be various reasons as to why a person may need to receive this support – it may be that the individual needs just 15 minutes a day to help to administer their medication, right up to 24 hour support.
The services a person may require can be assistance with personal needs -such as washing and dressing, food preparation, assistance to go shopping or help with their house cleaning. For a full range of services please see our website C & S Care Services which will show more examples of what can be offered within a domiciliary care service.
A referral for home support can often come from a family member who has noticed that their nearest and dearest has deteriorated and they can no longer provide all the support that their loved one needs, however, there are various ways that a referral can arise. It may be that a person is in hospital and the hospital Social Worker has assessed that they are not capable of going home without a support plan in place. A GP can also make a referral to the local Social Services for a needs assessment.
Which ever way the care starts, you need to be sure that your chosen Care Provider is going to be meeting your needs in a way that maintains your dignity and independence and that your care worker is capable and trustworthy. It is beneficial to know that your Care Provider is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). CQC are the Governing Body who ensure that all registered Care Providers are strictly monitored to comply with the Outcomes. If the Provider does not meet these Outcomes they can be struck off.
To give you further peace of mind, each care worker has to have a police check with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) which will ensure that each individual has had their history thoroughly checked so that their employer can make an informed decision on the individuals capability to provide care before employing that person.
