Hundreds of job and apprenticeship opportunities were on offer at yesterday’s (Tuesday) city jobs fair at the Youth Employment Hub based at The Way Youth Zone.
It provided Wolverhampton residents aged 16 to 29 with the chance to meet employers with live vacancies and find out about employment opportunities, training and work experience.
Almost 250 job seekers poured through the doors to take advantage of the chance to look at the wide variety of positions on offer.
More than 20 employers from across the City of Wolverhampton and the Black Country were at the School Street venue to showcase the jobs available to city jobseekers in the security, retail, care, administration and construction sectors.
They included Aldi, NHS/IPS, Co Op, Black Country Living Museum, 4 Property Group, NIS group, Army, West Midlands Police, City of Wolverhampton College, Embark Learning, Pilot LMS, Wolves At Work 18 to 24, NHS Trust Volunteers, Nova Training, Mass Temps, Netcom Training, Progressive Play, LearnPlay Foundation and Juniper Training.
Attendees also received information about support and training on offer from organisations such as City of Wolverhampton College, Connexions, City of Wolverhampton Council Apprenticeships, Wolverhampton Learning Platform, Wolves at Work and Black Country Impact.
Councillor Louise Miles, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for Jobs and Skills, said: “We remain determined to drive down youth unemployment in the city by supporting young people into sustainable employment, apprenticeships, education or training.
“The council is working closely with city training partners and employers to better connect young people to the opportunities on offer and it was good to see this in action at our latest jobs fair at the Youth Employment Hub.
"There was a wide representation of job opportunities - both full time and part time on offer – and I was particularly interested to hear the views of a number of people to help feedback into the current consultation on the city’s Education, Skills and Employment draft strategy.”
