Vicki MacWinyers aka Pixievic, lives and loves in Birmingham (UK) with her son and a cat! She plays bodhran in a ceilidh band, brings order to chaos as a Stage Manager, has interesting tattoos and knits faeries… with dreadlocks!
Her bio reads:
“A musician and poet, she writes from the heart - as she sees it - about love, life, sex - the whole caboodle, hoping to make you laugh and cry in equal measure ...”
This is true, but Vicki is so much more than that. A commanding performer who draws you into her physical stillness with not much more than the mesmeric quality of her velvety voice and an occasional raised eyebrow or flick of the wrist, Vicki writes of human experience that is instantly recognisable and although much of her work is personal, intimate even, it speaks to us all.
Best known for writing about the trials, tribulations – and yes, the joys – of being single, a mother, a woman, but above all a human being (trying to make the best job she can of navigating this crazy, chaotic 21st Century world with no maps, charts, guidebooks or guarantees), Vicki is both extremely funny and exquisitely poignant. She can swear a bit too…
Quotes ...
‘Humour is inclusive - it dissolves boundaries of fear and prejudice. With a self-deprecating humour and vivid descriptions of situations most of us have found ourselves in at sometime or another, I hope that through making people laugh with my writing and performances, it will unite an audience and may suggest that we're not that different after all.’
Testimonials ...
‘Courageous & cathartic - not unlike a foul mouthed Jane Garvey' - Lamontpaul, Outsideleft
'Pixievic's poems are suffused with honesty, bravery, warmth and colour. They are poems from a woman who has come through some stuff, still wears the scars, but is alive and kicking!' - Deborah Alma (AKA Emergency Poet)
'Deliciously witty and fabulously filthy, Pixievic's poetry is a real treat ...' - Carys Hannah
'Poetry as sweet as a kiss and as sharp as a razor blade' - Richard Archer - Walsall Poetry Society

‘A Stage Manager is a magical creature fuelled mostly by caffeine, that brings order to chaos!’
Originally training as a dancer, an knee injury meant I could no longer continue with this profession. So I found myself drawn to the goings on behind the scenes. As a Stage Manager I’ve worked at music festivals (including Shambala & Towersy) as well has in more typical theatre settings like B’ham REP & the MAC. I’ve been lucky to work with some great actors & companies over the years, I’m sure there’s a book in me somewhere about some of the stuff I’d had to deal with! My next production is a fantastic piece about Kinship care - produced by a local company Rag City Productions & written by a previous B’ham Poet Laurette Dr Jan Watts.
As the daughter of folk musicians it was inevitable I’d end up playing some sort of instrument. As a child I learned the violin but always felt more like a rhythm player so I taught myself to play the bodhran (a traditional Celtic drum). I now play in an award winning band - The Burdock Ceilidh Band

We play at all sorts of events, particularly weddings & parties.
Fairies with dreadlocks are just one of things I knit! I knit to unwind but also enjoy creating patterns for toys. You can find me on Facebook search for Dread Fairies or Pixie Knits - By Pixievic
