Wulfrunians can help light up the city from their own homes this year as part of a community Christmas lights switch-on.
We’re inviting everyone to join The Big Wolves Switch On and press the button on their own festive displays at 5pm on Tuesday, December 1.
The community switch-on aims to cast a burst of light over our city and bring a bit of cheer into what has been a difficult year.
People are invited to flick the switch at 5pm, perhaps with mince-pies, Christmas songs and a chat to neighbours from a safe social distance.
Residents will also be welcome to share pictures of their own Christmas switch-on via the council’s social media channels.
Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council, said the community switch-on recognised the fact that people had been facing this year’s challenges together.
“We know it has been a really tough year and it might be difficult to feel festive, but we’re hoping that as a city we can light up for Christmas and bring a little cheer,” he said.
“We’re encouraging everyone who can to track down the tinsel, break out the baubles and get ready to light up their homes with us.
“Anyone who has been very organised and already got their lights up can still join in – just switch on your lights at 5pm on December 1. And if you haven’t got your display ready yet, we hope the next few days will give you that chance.”
Keep an eye on the council’s social media channels for more details and information about how to join in the community switch-on of this year’s Christmas lights.
Residents are also welcome to share photos and videos of their Christmas lights switch-on via Wolverhampton Today on Facebook and Instagram, and @wolvescouncil on Twitter using the hashtag #BigWolvesSwitchOn
