Listen to poems & stories from Shaun Hand, Ian Henery and Greg Stokes. At the event you have taste of each of the authors own style, from dark humor to messages of hope and to presidential palace in Abu Dhabi.
Ian Henery is a successful local solicitor with offices across the West Midlands. But that’s just the day job. He is a prolific author and poet well known on the spoken word circuit. He is an indefatiguable supporter of his fellow wordsmiths and a generous supporter of local causes.
Poems of Hope are indeed poems of Hope that are born out of the Covid-19 pandemic. While some are about what has befallen us, others are for his partner and his daughters, others reference local nature reserves, Norse warriors and ancient gods, sister Dora and the Chinese Labour Corps. An uplifting collection to provide us with hope in these troubled times.
Shaun Patrick Hand, an author and musician from Birmingham. After drifting into various dead-ends, Shaun began studying English at night school aged 22—to get some time off from the pub he was working at six nights a week as much as anything else. After going to university in Wolverhampton and graduating with a First in Creative Writing, he promptly continued to work in local pubs and bars, using his spare time to procrastinate, make music with his band FABRIK and, eventually, begin writing books. His literary career kicked off in 2016 with Pop Art Poems: The Music of The Jam, widely regarded as one of the best books ever written about the group.
Shaun will be reading extract from his book ‘The New Brutalism’, whom he Collaborated with Tom Hicks. This book is a mix of stark realism and dark humour which reflect these modern times.
Greg Stokes, Local Greg born in Dudley and Attended Kates Hill Primary and Dudley Grammar School. He worked as Biomedical Scientist in Birmingham, Leicester, Abu Dhabi and Manchester and has worked as Social Worker in Sandwell and Walsall. He began writing in 1980 and has written over 200 short stories, 4 collections in print, 1 on Kindle. 3 published novels and a novella on Kindle. A book about living with hepatitis C and another about the murder of his father. 3 audio books.
He Set up Kates Hill Press in 1992 to publish West Midlands writers, having published over 70 titles and 30 authors.
