People are being urged to nominate a young person they know for the Wolverhampton Young Citizen of the Year Awards before the deadline this Monday (31 May).
The awards, led by the city’s Rotary Clubs and supported by the City of Wolverhampton Council, Express and Star, Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation and Carvers Building Supplies Ltd, offers the chance to give recognition to exceptional young citizens who have gone above and beyond to help others – particularly during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
With this year’s age range extended to 13-25, the judging panel – which includes the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Greg Brackenridge – is eager to receive as many nominations as possible for young people who have gone the extra mile for others.
In previous years, young people have won the award for their work with youth groups, their work in combatting knife crime and reducing cultural prejudice in their community.
Councillor Beverley Momenabadi, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People and a member of Bilston and Wolverhampton West Rotary Club, said: “During the pandemic, we have seen many examples of great community spirit from young Wulfrunians – whether this be volunteering at Covid-19 test centres, looking out for vulnerable neighbours, organising collections for foodbanks at school or working on the frontline as keyworkers.
“I would encourage everybody who knows a young person who has put others first to nominate them for this fantastic award.”
Anyone can nominate a young person aged 13-25 who lives, goes to school or works within the City of Wolverhampton. To nominate a young person you know for the awards, please visit www.wolverhamptonyoungcitizen.org.uk.
