Black Country Transport (BCT) – working with City of Wolverhampton Council and neighbouring local authorities – has secured funding to improve the key route, which incorporates Birmingham New Road and Wolverhampton Road.

Proposals include segregated cycle lanes, tree planting, safer pedestrian footways and new pedestrian/cyclist crossings, CCTV and real time passenger information at new bus stops along with improved junctions and traffic signals.

The proposals form part of plans to develop a network of inter-connecting active travel routes around the region.

This will help provide the public with a greater choice of healthy and affordable travel.

Councillor Qaiser Azeem, cabinet member for highways and green city at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “It is important to hear views from across the community as we work towards developing an active travel network that benefits everyone along some of our key routes.

“These improvements can have a positive impact on everything from traffic congestion to air quality, the local economy and our health.

“Consultations like this are a great way for people to make their voice heard and help shape projects in the future, so I would encourage anyone with an interest to take part.”

Delivered in connection with West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the proposed work covers areas of Wolverhampton, Dudley and Sandwell, funded by the Government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS).

The consultation also looks at ways of improving public safety in the area and it will explore a potential local travel point, which could include bike hire, bicycle parking, electric vehicle charging and a sheltered seating area.

Residents and businesses who live in the immediate area of the scheme will receive a leaflet through their door, further detailing the proposed scheme.

Thursday 12 December, 1pm to 7.30pm, at Hilton Hall Community Centre, Hilton Hall Road, in Wolverhampton.

Monday 2 December, 1pm to 7pm, at Tesco Extra at Castlegate in Dudley

Tuesday 10 December, 2pm to 8pm,at Brandhall Library in Oldbury.

Wednesday 18 December, 1pm to 8pm, at Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury.
