Laura Liptrot bursts back onto the stage with a new performance of her poetry and stories! The Stourbridge-born writer and actor, who attended Kidderminster College from 2010 to 2013, is booked to perform at Kidderminster’s hot new venue Jelleyman’s Mill on Saturday 22nd February 2025! She will entertain audiences with readings from: her various poetry collections; her debut novel Dreamcatchers and its sequel The Green Boy which is due to be published in May, by Tenebrous Texts.

Laura has been described as ‘funny, engaging, clever, truthful and interesting’; as someone who ‘thinks and feels fearlessly’ and as ‘having the prolific capability of the source of a mighty river’. Since self-publishing her debut poetry collection, Cocktails, in 2023, five more offerings have followed, two of which have been traditionally published by Tenebrous Text whom Laura signed with in 2024. With a background in acting, she is an energetic and engaging performer who is well known on the local poetry open mic circuit!

‘I wrote my first poem at school at the age of 10’ says Laura ‘then another and then had a hiatus of 15 years’. Finally, a friend of her’s told a DJ on local radio that she was a prolific poet and Laura had to think quickly and come up with a lot of new material to perform on the radio. After that, she simply couldn’t stop and when another friend suggested publishing her work, Laura jumped at the idea of being able to share her ideas. She loves writing in an optimistic voice and, though some of her work challenges injustice in the world, for the most part she seeks to bring some colour and magic into people’s lives.

She believes firmly in the beauty of every human being and that the universe and all the spirits within it should be celebrated. Art is the voice of the people.

Signed copies of Laura’s publications will be available to purchase before and after the event as well as many of her art canvases being on display. As well as writing, acting and painting, Laura is also adding another string to her bow, journeying down the avenue of singing and song writing with various collaborators. The event will also see Laura reading exclusive snippets from her upcoming novel The Green Boy, which is the second in the Garden of Time series. More can be found out about this series on Laura’s social media and via Tenebrous Texts and if space, fantasy, magic and romance is your thing, then this is the story for you!

The recently re-opened Jelleyman’s Mill is home to Jelleyman’s Heritage Arts Charity who are proud to support local artists like Laura in their various ventures. The charity is described as ‘An intergenerational creative Kidderminster community weaving together strands of past, present & future at Jelleyman’s Mill’. There have already been two JelleyFest events on the site and more are planned for later this year!

Both Laura and Jelleyman’s are delighted to open the doors to lovers of poetry and art on Saturday 22nd February with the show starting at 7pm. Tickets for this exciting and exclusive performance are priced at just £10, so why not take the chance to see Laura while you’ve got her?
