Local Nostalgia Kick for Noughties Kids

Wolverhampton’s radio station 101.8 WCR FM is bringing a nostalgia kick to kids  who grew up between 2000 and 2009.

There’s no shortage of radio stations catering for the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s, but  the 00s are often forgotten. And that’s why Jack Haywood and Lyndon Edwards can  be heard every Tuesday night between 9 and 10pm with “Acceptable in the  Noughties.”

Jack explains: “Lyndon was adding to our music library with tracks from the  Millennium onwards and spent a few weeks coming up with around 300 tracks. And  they took me straight back to my school days with lots of songs I’d totally forgotten  about. We thought if that was how we felt, what about everyone else who was a  teenager back then?”

The show first went out in June 2016 and its title was inspired by a hit from the target  era – Calvin Harris’ “Acceptable in the 80s” from 2007.

Jack says: “The Noughties often gets a bad reputation because it was the peak for  “Pop Idol” and “X Factor” – people tend to think it was all about The Crazy Frog and  the Cheeky Girls! But there was plenty of great stuff from rock to indie, to dance  music and simply superb pop songs – and we play them.”

But that doesn’t stop Jack and Lyndon from poking a bit of fun at the era as well with  their “What Were They Thinking?” feature on the half hour when they play a track  that hasn’t aged well or perhaps wasn’t all that good in the first place.

“Above all we have a lot of fun and don’t take things too seriously. It’s about having a  good time – and we love inviting listeners to join the party.”

You can hear Jack and Lyndon’s “Acceptable in the Noughties” every Tuesday 9- 10pm on 101.8 WCR FM, online at wcrfm.com or via Smartspeaker (“Play WCR  FM”)
