Supporting statement:

City of Wolverhampton Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Housing said, Councillor Steve Evans, said: “It’s not just about maintaining our existing housing portfolio. We have to ensure we can build new council houses.

“The government do have a role to play and we know they’ve made some changes to the Right to Buy system to help.

“In recent times we’ve also seen added pressures on Housing Revenue Accounts with damp, mould and condensation and fire safety regulations coming in.

“Therefore, without national reform of the Housing Revenue Account system, delivering medium and longer-term objectives is going to be very challenging, which is why England’s 20 largest council landlords, including City of Wolverhampton Council, have collectively developed proposals on national financing and policy, to stabilise Housing Revenue Accounts and enable them to operate efficiently and effectively.”
