Lightwoods House is happy to support National Poetry Day. We Welcome Brendan to guide new poetry inspired by the beautiful house, park and garden at Lightwoods.
Brendan Hawthorne is a poet, playwright, writer and musician, based in the West Midlands.
First published in 2004 by bluechrome he was described as being the ‘best Urban Poet of his time.’ He has since released four poetry collections, two plays and seven titles of local interest for Bradwell Books.
He has appeared on the One Show, been a local interest inset on Flog It! an interviewee for Adrian Chiles in a BBC documentary and West Midlands Ambassador for Smooth Radio for a two-year period.

Brendan is Poet Laureate of Wednesbury, one of the Black Country 100 Masters and worked on numerous commissions, including NHS, English Heritage and National Trust.
Lightwoods House is a 18th Century House, surrounded by parkland with a formal garden. It has been restored as a community centre and wedding venue, we host regular community activities like a walking group a cycling group, a gardening group and a Craft and Cuppa Club. We also rent out rooms for community classes and Parties. Yoga, keep fit, Pilates, baby ballet, baby glowbugs and regular art classes all feature in our weekly routine. We also have a film club which shows popular classics in our Shakespeare Garden.
National poetry day brings something new to the house’s community activities, and we look forward to hear the poetry from Lightwoods inspired poets.
Brendan says, “This is a great opportunity for writers of all abilities to get their imagination fired up by such a beautiful and inspiring venue on National Poetry Day. It makes for a relaxing day in good company and being creative with words.”
