Young people aged 18-24 looking for work and living in Wolverhampton are being invited to attend the first in a series of free citywide events to find out about the support and opportunities available.
Two ‘Wolves at Work 18-24’ Youth Summits will take place next month at Low Hill, Community Centre on Thursday, March 3 and The Way Youth Zone on Wednesday, March 9, both 11am to 2pm.
They will give young people the opportunity to get together, enjoy a free hot lunch and chat to local employers and providers with job vacancies, training opportunities and apprenticeships, including Eurofins, The Army, Premium Choice, Wolverhampton Homes, Learn Play Foundation, Black Country Impact, Spring Board, Commonwealth Games, Wolverhampton College, The Princes Trust and Adult Education Wolverhampton.
Attendees will also be able to speak to training providers who offer tailored advice and guidance to young people about obtaining new skills and qualifications to support their journey into work.
The summits will also provide interactive, have-a-go activities including virtual reality and game tasters, live demonstrations of working in the hospitality industry and mini-commonwealth games.
Young people who attend will receive a free National Express card for one day’s future bus travel and entry into a free raffle to win a £100, £50 or £25 Enjoy Wolverhampton gift card, which can be used in over 100 city centre businesses including shops, food and drink, leisure and entertainment venues.
The summits offer a platform for young people to have their voices heard - and the opportunity to hear from other young people in the city about their experiences of gaining skills, qualifications and finding work.
Councillor Ian Brookfield, Leader of City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “Supporting young people aged 18-24 into work is a priority for the council and this is the first of many events we will be holding across the city.
“We’re encouraging young people to seize the opportunity and come along to one of these events which could help to shape their future.
“They’ll have the chance to find out about jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities in the city, and to speak to the right people who will listen and help them on their journey to achieving their full potential.”
