Organisations across the region have officially been recognised by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) for their work in actively promoting the health and wellbeing of their staff.
Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands and Dr Julie Nugent, the WMCA’s executive director for economic delivery, skills and communities, joined a virtual event this week in which 53 employers received accreditation for their work under the Thrive at Work scheme.
Initially set up in 2018, Thrive At Work supports organisations in improving the health and wellbeing of their employees, with accreditation enabling them to demonstrate their commitment to good employee welfare.
The programme is part-funded through the Mental Health and Productivity Pilot.
Of the 53 employers recognised at the event, 37 achieved Foundation Level, 14 were accredited with bronze and for the first time this year two were accredited at silver.
The Mayor said: “It is highly important for organisations to recognise the importance of their employee's mental and physical wellbeing and I'm delighted to see an impressive 53 workplaces awarded through our Thrive at Work scheme, improving the health and wellbeing of over 26 thousand staff from this year’s awards. That is an outstanding achievement.
“I urge more employers across the West Midlands to get involved with the scheme and sign up to help improve the health of their workforce.”
Dr Julie Nugent added: “Congratulations to all the businesses that have been rightly awarded today for actively promoting the health and wellbeing of their staff.
“It is encouraging to see so many employers empowered to take a positive approach to employee wellbeing and transforming their workplace to become happier, healthier and more productive.”
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, WMCA portfolio lead for wellbeing and leader of Warwickshire County Council said: “It has been encouraging to see those employers already engaged with Thrive at Work programme.
“The benefit this can bring to the health and wellbeing of their employees is
incredible and benefits employees and businesses alike. I would urge more employers to become involved ahead of the next event."
