Wolverhampton’s ultimate art & photography challenge is back as Paint the Day returns online for summer 2020.  This long running outdoor family event is organised by Newhampton Arts Centre and is now aiming to encourage artists and families to get creative in lockdown.

This is the sixth year of the annual competition and exhibition, NAC has not let the current global situation stop their outdoor event. Everyone can now taking part in (and around) their own home. Paint the day 2020 is open to visual artists of all levels and practices, including professional artists, amateurs and children alike. On Saturday the 20th June the event will begin, challenging participants to create their very own masterpiece in just one day, using their own home as a starting point. Participants will capture a scene within their home if isolating or within a one mile radius if it see safe to do so (depending on government guidelines at the time).  Artists can use anything from traditional watercolours and  experimental photography to abstract collage, allowing them to interpret the scene in any visual style they wish as long as they can digitally summit their entries to NAC. An online exhibition of all entries will be up the next day, and a physical exhibition at NAC of the originals will follow in the autumn when prizes will be awarded.

In previous years Paint the Day has achieved great things in helping to promote the area of Whitmore Reans in a positive light. Paint the Day now celebrates our own homes and surroundings allowing entrants the chance to show off the natural beauty their  own communities have to offer. This gives new opportunities and possibilities to returning artists and an opportunity for a new group of locked-down creatives to take part, providing a fun and creative project for families and individuals whilst adding to the vast community spirit with have already seen come out of Wolverhampton over the past few months.

Like previous years there be over £500 in prize money including and overall First Prize, Photography, U-18 and Public Vote. All artwork will be submitted online to Newhampton Arts Centre with a chance to drop off physical work, once the centre is back open, in preparation for a physical exhibition in autumn, if government guidelines allow.
