The Poet in Residence of Wolverhampton`s radio station, 101.8 WCR FM, is to give a free benefit concert to striking postal workers on 8th December at the Royal British Legion in Wednesbury.
Ian Henery, Poet in Residence, will join musicians and other poets from the area in a night of live entertainment whilst they try to raise funds for striking postal workers.
"It`s free entry but we would kindly ask that people make a donation towards a strike fund for our postal workers who are facing unprecedented attacks on their pay and working conditions".
Postal workers have been taking part across the country in strike action over pay, terms and conditions after it was reported that the Royal mail has dished out £2 billion for shareholders since it was privatised but refusing staff a decent pay rise. The CWU claims up to 25,000 jobs face the axe and deliveries will be cut.
"Postal workers are fighting for the very existence of Royal Mail as we know it" explained Ian Henery. "It`s a 500 year old company and it should not be ripped apart."
