City of Wolverhampton residents are being reminded they can have their say now on shaping the council’s new Housing Assistance Policy.
The policy will set out the council’s provision of mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and discretionary housing grants to vulnerable and disabled people living in private sector housing.
It will increase the flexibility of the DFG, to make best use of funding that is made available to the council from central Government to assist eligible residents to live independently in their own homes for longer.
A number of new discretionary grants are also proposed within the policy to provide a more flexible approach to simple adaptations in homes for eligible applicants.
As part of the public consultation, city residents can take part in an online survey at https://consultation.wolverhampton.gov.uk/cwc/housing-assistance-policy-hap-consultation-survey/
Councillor Jacqueline Sweetman, Cabinet Member for City Assets and Housing, said: “This is a crucial piece of work to frame how we support some of the most vulnerable residents in our city to stay in their own homes for longer.
“The new policy is proposing a simpler and more extensive range of assistance to help improve people’s quality of life.
“It is important people have their say and I would urge them to take part in the consultation on this policy, which addresses the challenges being experienced by residents.
“The objective is to ensure people in the greatest need have the greatest opportunity to access support that meets their needs.”
The online survey closes on Monday, December 14, 2020.
