Local  poet Rosie Mitchell is a spoken word performer and mental health advocate. Poetry helped her find her voice at a time when she felt silenced. Poetry became a life force for her and gave her a purpose in life after becoming estranged from her children.

I often write raw, painful, gritty, and provocative poetry. "Well behaved women never made history" is one of my favourite quotes . If my words inspire , motivate and make an impact on just one person that's what matters to me", said Rosie.

She started her spoken word journey at "The Mother Wolf" club in London and has regularly performed at Claptrap The Venue in Stourbridge where she was a support act for Lost Wave Music's album launch. Rosie's spoken word poetry has been featured on Instagram poetry platforms such as Untwine Me UK, Fireflies for Dark Minds and Subtle Poetry magazine.  Rosie has also performed her spoken word at Rosetta Theatre at Katie Fitzgeralds alongside well known poets Laura Liptrot and Jade Hartley and at Gatis Community Space for the 1in3 Project (It`s Our Right) in Wolverhampton.

She's had the pleasure of writing poetry collaboratively with award winning U.S indie author Michael Nanfito. Her poem about the madness/genius of Vincent Van Gogh was featured on the Van Gogh Alive experience website. She aims to release her first collection of poetry next year.

                       Love Of My Life

I start to smile and shake my head,

Drifted off while making my bed.

Drifted off to a memory of a time

When I was your mom and you

Were mine.

Mindfulness abandons me.

You are my favourite reverie.

My mind understands you`re

My whole heart

From the moment we met

Right from the start.

Losing you was my undoing and tragedy,

My mind drifts because my heart says

"Remember me.

Remember that I`m still broken."

My mind barely tries to close our book,

My heart always wins.

i take another look,

Travelling to that most beautiful time

Because I`ll always be good but not quite fine.

I might feel fulfilled but I`ll never be complete

Like never being full no matter what I eat,

Because you are not here and I miss your smile.

So I never forget you, not even for a while.

You are not here with me and from me you are gone

But I`ll dream of you for as long as I`m your mom.
